A short explanation on version numbers

Given a version number MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH, increment the:

  1. MAJOR version when incompatible API changes are made

  2. MINOR version when functionality in a backward-compatible manner is added

  3. PATCH version when a backward-compatible bug is fixed
