📘 What you will learn here
On this page you will learn how to turn sync on or off for a single work item in the Sync Bridge panel, who can do it, and what happens when sync is off.
Some sync rules let you decide, work item by work item, whether the rule syncs it. Admins set this up per rule, see Permissions and Per-Work-Item Sync Control.
When you see the switch
A rule row in the Sync Bridge panel shows a switch next to the rule name only when an admin has turned on the Per-work-item sync switch for that rule. The rule's default decides what happens to work items nobody has switched:
|
Rule default |
What it means for a work item |
|---|---|
|
On by default |
The work item syncs unless someone turns sync off for it. |
|
Off by default |
The work item doesn't sync until someone turns sync on for it. |
Rules without the per-work-item switch always sync every work item that matches them, and show no switch.
Who can use the switch
The admin chooses, per rule, who can use the switch. Anyone who matches at least one of these can use it:
-
Specific users
-
Members of specific groups
-
People with specific project roles in the work item's space
-
People with a permission: Jira administrators, Project administrators or Anyone who can edit the work item
Being a Jira admin doesn't by itself let you use the switch. The rule must allow it.
If you aren't allowed, the switch is shown but disabled, and its tooltip says You don't have permission to turn sync on or off for this work item. The switch is also disabled when the rule itself is turned off, or when the Sync Bridge license is inactive.
Turn sync off for a work item
-
Open the work item and open the Sync Bridge panel.
-
Find the row for the sync rule.
-
Turn off the switch next to the rule name.
The row now shows a Sync off chip. Other people who have the panel open see the change without reloading.
Turn sync back on
-
Open the work item and open the Sync Bridge panel.
-
Turn on the switch next to the rule name.
The Sync off chip disappears. For an Off by default rule, this is also how you start syncing a work item for the first time.
What changes when sync is off
-
The rule doesn't push this work item, whatever starts the sync: changes on the work item, a manual push, or the Sync Trigger API.
-
The rule doesn't pull changes from the linked work item into this work item.
-
Push, Pull, Retry and Recheck are hidden for that rule in the panel.
-
Nothing is deleted. The link to the work item on the other Jira site stays, and so does the sync history.
-
Other rules on the same work item aren't affected. The switch is per rule.
Turning sync back on doesn't start a sync by itself. The work item syncs again at the next trigger the rule uses, for example the next change on the work item or the next scheduled pull. A Jira admin can also push it right away from the panel.
Find work items with sync turned off
Sync Bridge records the switch on the work item, so you can search for work items that were switched on or off with JQL. See Search Synced Work Items with JQL.
