📘 What you will learn here
On this page you will learn which sync rule settings lock once the rule has synced at least one work item, why they lock and what Jira administrators can do when they need to change them.
When settings lock
Settings lock as soon as the rule has at least one linked work item, that is, a work item on This Jira site that the rule has linked to a work item on the target site. Until then, you can change everything.
Which settings are locked
|
Setting |
Where in the editor |
|---|---|
|
Source connector |
Configuration tab, Source panel, Connector |
|
Target connector |
Configuration tab, Target panel, Connector |
|
Source scope: spaces, work types and statuses (Basic), or the JQL query (Advanced JQL) |
Configuration tab, Source panel, Edit source scope |
|
Target space |
Configuration tab, Target panel, Select space |
Everything else stays editable, including the rule name, Enabled, Push and Pull and their triggers, the pull schedule, the per-work-item sync switch, field mappings, and comment, attachment and status settings.
Why they lock
Each linked pair connects a specific work item on This Jira site with a specific work item on the target site. If you changed the connectors or scope afterwards, existing links would point at a different site, or at work items the rule no longer covers. Locking these settings keeps existing links consistent.
How the editor shows it
-
A warning at the top of the Configuration tab says: Connectors and scope can't be changed because this sync rule has already synced work items. Create a new rule or duplicate this one instead.
-
Both Connector fields are disabled.
-
The Edit source scope and Select space buttons are disabled. Hover over them to see the same message.
The current scope is still shown, so you can see what the rule covers. When you select Save changes, your other changes are saved and the locked settings stay as they are.
What to do instead
To sync a different scope, a different target space or another site:
-
Duplicate the rule and change the copy. The copy keeps the field mappings and other settings, has no linked work items, and starts turned off, so you can change its connectors and scope. See Duplicate, Import and Export Sync Rules.
-
Or create a new rule. See Create a Sync Rule.
If the new rule covers the same work items as the original, turn off the original rule first. Otherwise both rules sync those work items.
